Hans Wilisdorf founded Wilsdorf & Davies in 1905 in London, and he is credited with making the wristwatch popular in an era that the pocket watch was king. In 1906, Wilsdorf chose the name Rolex for his brand; it wasn't until 1927, however, that the Oyster watch range was launched.
Rolex watches are recognized around the world as accurate, durable and expensive - not to mention often imitated.
